All About the Red Lip

As a young woman, I have long admired the red lip. I always thought it was just so chic and sophisticated. I also believed that only a certain kind-of lip could pull off this crimson pout and that I did not fit into this category.

A few years ago I thought, "Why is it again that I don't wear red lipstick?" All of the reasons I once had made no sense now. As soon as I decided that I would rock red, I needed to figure out what shade worked best for me. I did a bit of research on classic red lipsticks and went to Sephora to try them out. After trying on several reds, I settled on Cruella, a scarlet red velvet matte pencil by NARS.

I've worn Cruella on special occasions and on nights on the town, but I simply don't wear red lipstick enough. (The reason for goal #1.) In order to make make this happen, I needed more options. This January I purchased Dragon Girl, another velvet matte pencil by NARS, after I saw it on a J.Crew sales rep. I asked her what red she was wearing and then promptly left J. Crew and headed straight to Sephora to make it mine. I like it even more than Cruella because it's a much more bold red.

Having another color option has made me fall in love with the classic red lip even more and adding it to my 2013 goals has given me the confidence to wear red lipstick more than just a handful of times throughout the year.
